indoor voices

Dear co-worker:

You sit less than 30 feet away from me and have an extremely loud voice. I can hear every word you're saying. If you're going to have a conversation in which the phrase "I have to check with Kate about..." features prominently, might I suggest that you check with me on those items BEFORE having said conversation? Because the overall tone of your comments is implying that I am a) grossly misinformed, b) passing along said misinformation, and c) generally fucking this shit up, none of which is true. Also, you might consider using your "indoor voice" for similar conversations from now on.

Thanks,
K

take my breath away

It'd be nice if someone could do something about this humidity. I don't like feeling like I'm gasping for air when I should be able to breathe normally.

the devil does what?

When did they decide to make The Devil Wears Prada a movie? Man, I live under such a rock. I wasn't too crazy about the book though, so I doubt I'll be in a hurry to see the movie.

Spoon? Check. Earrings? Check. Sunny morning? Check. It's looking like today might break the rainy/stormy streak we've been on for the past few days.

20/20

In hindsight, I suppose wearing sandals today wasn't the best idea given the still-pouring rain outside.

Also, it's looking like the gym may not happen, which is disappointing. I was really looking forward to a workout this afternoon. Blah.

it all balances out, I guess

I remembered a spoon, but forgot to put in my hoop earrings for the second day in a row; got out of the house a little later than I wanted to, but still made it to work before 6; set out my gym clothes for this afternoon, but my shoes are still by the front door (which isn't really of the bad, since that's most likely where I'd put them on anyways); heart the rainy, stormy weather, but could do without the increased humidity. The end.

London rain

Still raining, still brooding. I'm looking forward to the gym tonight and hoping that'll help snap me out of my funk. If not, well, there's always Columbo.

I've been listening to the new Buckcherry album, Fifteen, and so far I'm really liking it. It's got a pretty good mix of songs with enough slowish songs to match my current mood, and some faster ones for when I need a break from thinking. I'm so happy Mike fixed things so I can use my iPod again.

so much for that PSA

I forgot to bring a spoon today and refuse to dig through the trash for the one I used Friday because: ew, which means I'll be
a) trying to drink my yogurt of the carton AGAIN,
b) trying to drink my applesauce while pondering whether or not it would be possible to just lap it out of the little container like the puppykins do,
c) compulsively checking to make sure there is no applesauce or yogurt on the tip of my nose,
d) vowing to bring in, not just one spoon, but a whole BOX of plastic spoons so this never happens again, or
e) all of the fucking above.

Thank God pudding's thick enough to eat with a fork.

partly rainy

What an odd, rainy weekend. I like storms anyway, and with everything that's been going on, the weather is well-suited. It's curling up with a book weather, brooding weather, weather that gives you an excuse to not go out and do things that you'd otherwise feel guilty for bailing on. I did not do any noteworthy cooking this weekend, but I did do a shitload of laundry. I even unpacked most of the hangers so I could hang said laundry up, which is impressive only because I've been procrastinating that particular task for a solid two weeks. Back to the weather - pouring down rain that gusted in sheets across the rooftops of the townhouses across the street alternated with blindingly sunny-and-warm moments that would make you wonder if you'd dreamed the storms if it weren't for the puddles still on the ground that prove it did, in fact, rain half an hour ago. There were a couple of storms that I thought would turn into repeats of the awesome one the other day, but they didn't ever quite reach that mark. I love hearing the sound of falling rain, though. I hate commuting in the rain, but I'm kind of hoping the storms keep up their on-again, off-again presence during the week.

burnout's not always bad

When Mike I got back from running a couple of errands this evening, we played some Burnout: Revenge, and even though he kicked my ass with 20 wins to my 4, it was a great time. Some of the races I lost were bordering on the ridiculous (I had 3 takedowns to his 10), but some of them were really close with both of us desperately trying not to crash so we could catch up to the car ahead of us and take them down, earning the 10th takedown needed for the win. It's easy to forget the appeal of the game, to just remember it as "that fun racing game," but just playing a few seconds of the game brings back the feelings of addiction like there was never a break.

I can't fucking win. Fuck today, hard.

blame it on the rain

There was a fantastic thunderstorm late last night. I don't know if it was the gusting rain, the noisy wind, or the strobe-like lightning that woke me up, but just the little bit of it that I was awake for was awesome. I was irritated when I woke up because I thought it was time to get up, but leaning across Mike to check the clock proved that I was wrong; it was only 2:08 am, and I had time to enjoy the storm for a few minutes before snuggling back up against my husband and going back to sleep till the alarm went off for real at 3:30.

My right arm is tingly, and has been that way off and on for the past several weeks. I don't like it when my arms tingle - it worries me, and then I go into full hypochondriac mode, which is usually a colossal waste of time and energy. Everything's so much easier if my limbs just feel the way they're supposed to.

Nancy Drew in VA

I've been re-reading all of my old Nancy Drew books and the one I just finished, The Hidden Window Mystery, is set in Charlottesville, VA. It mentions Nancy, Bess, and George flying in to the aiport at Richmond, visiting Monticello, etc., and it's neat to read about places I'm familiar with in a book like this.

One week till the next season of Columbo is released! I am such a nerd.

I need a nap

I seriously don't know if I'm going to make it to the end of the day here at work. I woke up this morning feeling like I'd just closed my eyes. We went to bed just before 10, then my brother called (our cousin is on his last nerve), then Mom B called us back (we hadn't heard from her in a bit and were worried). I went back to sleep sometime after 11, but my body seems to think that just wasn't good enough because I'm dizzy, disoriented, and queasy. Either or both of the first two are regular players when I first wake up, and the last makes a guest appearance now and then, but all of them at the same time is a rough start to the day, especially when they follow me through said day. I've been up for 4 hours, I've had an energy drink (FRS still = blech - I haven't found the right formula to turn it into a tasty drink) that hasn't done shit for my energy level, and I'm still having trouble stringing words together in a way that makes sense. I've given up on sounding intelligent, now I'm just trying to hang on.

Simon and Schuster is making a new Nancy Drew series! And there are ND books (the Nancy Drew Notebooks series) for younger girls now! Aaaaaand Applewood Books is reprinting the un-revised versions of original books too! Why did no one tell me about this?

PS: Papercutz has Nancy Drew Graphic novels, and Nancy Drew movie is in the works. I can't believe that I haven't heard at about at least ONE of these things by now.

PPS: Nancy Drew loungepants? And cosmetic bags? feeeeeeed the addiction. But why couldn't I have found out about this site when they still had this for sale? Or this? Or this one, damn it all to hell.

If you write something on your hand, don't wash your hand until after you've copied the info onto a piece of paper.

*poof*

I had an entry all written out in my head and was going to type it up as soon as I got out of the shower, but when I sat down at the computer, *poof* it was gone. I don't even remember what the hell I was planning on writing about. I hate being so forgetful. I'm chalking this one up to being tired, but it'd be nice if I didn't forget shit all the time.

all the kids are right

I heard Local H's "All The Kids Are Right" on Squizz as I was pulling into the parking lot this morning. The last time I heard that song on the radio was in 1998 (when 106.5 was still the Buzz), so I was surprised, and pleased, to hear it on XM. This is why I heart Squizz, XM, and, as always, Mike.

boy bands and pop stars

I was checking my regular stations on XM this morning, and after hearing one of the pop songs on the top 20 channel, I started thinking about a discussion I read a month or so ago about guilty pleasure music. That got me thinking about my inordinate fondness for the Backstreet Boys, and from there it was a short skip to 98 degrees and Nick Lachey. At that point, "What's Left of Me" started playing, and I had to laugh.

the longest move ever

We closed on our new house the day before the wedding, and a month and a half later, we're finally finished moving everything from the old house. Now for the unpacking.

Columbo - Season 5: June 27
Perry Mason - Season 1: July 11
3rd Rock - Season 5: August 15

I haaaaaaaaaaate waiting.

There are several more shows that are being released that I want to buy (Lois & Clark, the rest of the Sopranos, the Pretender, One Tree Hill, etc.), but these are the ones we've already started on. The only exception is Perry Mason, and Mike's been waiting for them to start releasing that ever since we found out Columbo was coming out on DVD.

I remembered to bring a spoon for my yogurt today, so no yogurt-nose for me!

String cheese first thing in the morning results in icky-dairy breath. Gross.

I love the Munchies Kids Mix. Cheetos, Cap'n Crunch, Doritos, popcorn, and pretzels in one small snack bag? Genius.

If you forget to pack a spoon for your yogurt but decide to eat it anyways because you're hungryhungryhungry, please keep in mind the following:
1) this is going to be somewhat difficult,
2) you will look ridiculous, and
3) you will almost certainly end up with yogurt on your nose.

dragging

It's another "I'm so tired, it feels like I didn't sleep at all last night" entry, because, well, that's what it feels like. I've had a couple nights like that this week, but I can't pinpoint why. It could be because of the heat, or Mike scaring the shit out of me before bed, or because I've been going to bed too full, or maybe there are little sleep gnomes that keep poking me to make sure I don't sleep well. Whatever the reason, tonight I'm putting in a request to wake up feeling like I've actually slept some.
